Video Tutorial: Texturing a Small Billboard

Final render

This is my first entry for the speed texturing competiton over at Game-Artist.Net. The game texturing here is done by applying photo textures from CGTextures.com as well as a movie poster from "HEAT", a highly successful action movie from the 90s. This video tutorial / VTM does not display everything which was done to the final piece but does go through some photoshop actions and workflows. My objectives here were to convey real broken glass as well as giving the impression that a strong fluorescent light is behind the poster. Lessons learnt:

  • Match the UV size of the Poster & the Glass Material. Even though the prefabricated model was delivered like this I should have fixed it in advance.
  • My back lighting was far from perfect and I should have tried to intensify it some more.
  • Don't spend all your time on the main aspect of the piece which I did, hence the rest is rather dull!
