Having dabbled in the online gaming and graphics world for the past 10 years I consider myself somewhat of enthusiast/amateur as I never had any intentions of making this my career. I kicked off with photoshop 2.0 back in the day and have been hooked on computer graphics ever since. Combined with gaming, modding came naturally & started with a single post on the Desert Combat Off-Topic forum back in 2004, from that evolved the monster known as Project Reality, the most played Battlefield 2 mod worldwide. As a side-project, I created Game-Artist.Net in sorts as an homage to game art as well as a desire for a professional & unbiased community. requiem2d.net reflects on all of this and will hopefully give upcoming as well as experience modders some additional information & advice on how to succeed in what has become a very competitive niche…
Background on myself…
Founder - Project Reality, a realism modification for Battlefield 2.
Project Reality (PR) is a modification for the computer game Battlefield 2 on the PC. The Mod developers’ aims are to rework the original game engine developed by Digital Illusions of Sweden (Dice) within legal and feasible constraints to create a realistic combat environment for gamers. This includes adjusting the games various elements including physics, visual effects and game play. Along with changes to how the game handles, the PR team intends to include additional factions, such as the British military and add to or alter existing factions so that they resemble real life combat elements found within their contemporary environments.
Current Release: Project Reality 0.7
In 2006, Project Reality won Moddb.com’s Silver Spanner in the Mod of the Year awards, with 80,000 votes in total, and out of 4,000 mods PR came in second place.
In 2007, Project Reality won GameFlood’s $25,000 Mod & Map Contest in the category “Best FPS Mod”.
“Be warned, if you play this like vanilla BF2, you are going to lose. Painfully. Quickly. But if you keep your wits about you, your ass to the ground and your ears open for orders, get ready for one of the meanest, most ruthlessly-demanding shooter experiences around.”
“If you’re a serious Battlefield 2 fan, the Project Reality mod just gave you a fresh reason to re-enlist.” - Gamespy
